To blog, or not to blog....
Nov/10/08
This is my first attempt a doing a blog entry. I don’t even know what a blog is…
Assuming it’s some kind of new-speak for journal, here goes.
Before starting, I want to thank Cheri for reworking this web site. It really looks nice and she has put countless hours into it…
I keep wondering how it could be mid November so soon? Seems like a couple weeks ago it was August. According to my things to do list, it still should be August. Saturday I finally installed the attic fan I’d purchased last summer to exhaust moisture from the dog barn. Hopefully this will eliminate the condensate that coalesces on top of the doorframe and rains down my neck at each opening.
As I mentioned above, summer came and went.
June 22nd was a sad day when little Sheena passed away. She would have been 16 on December 7th and was the last of my old dogs, out of Blue. (Ch Seaviews Bonnie Brither Blue WS). Always a happy little girl, I will miss her little songs and playful spirit.
With the summer lows, came the highs. I had a wonderful visit with Marie-Louise Lakjer and her husband Ole. Vacationing for almost a month from Denmark, they passed through on their tour of the western states. Marie-Louise is Nova’s (Jurak’s Bossanova Queen WSX) breeder and I was very happy she was able to see what a wonderful girl Nova turned out to be.
Less then a week later, on the day my vacation started, Nisse and Annica Uppstrom arrived from Sweden. After spending a few days waiting for their lost suitcase to never arrive, we headed out to training camp in Idaho. We a great time training dogs, talking dogs, building campfires, eating well and staying hydrated. The weather was perfect with cold mornings for running dogs and pleasant afternoons for camp life. One day Margaret had to leave camp and spend a day at work, she was able to take in my Serum Run Application and send it off on the eve of the deadline.
Up until going on vacation I had been taking the dogs running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. We did some good runs in Idaho and by the time training camp was over the dogs were up to 15 mile runs. I lost a little momentum in October with mushing events three weekends in a row. Two were for the Roslyn Races and the other was a fall warm up. I was real happy with the dogs at the Roslyn Races. The weekend of October 11th & 12th was the first one. I used my ATV and at 550 pounds, it’s hard to be competitive when the other teams had motorless ATV’s, carts, or dinky light weight ATV’s. The next time at Roslyn I brought my old small ATV that has a broken engine and used it. We were able to shave ½ hour off our previous times using the smaller ATV.
Now it’s back to the training routine. We’ve been having monsoon type rains, but had a break yesterday and got the dogs out for a run before going to work.
A couple weeks ago we received official notification that we had been selected to participate in the 2009 Serum Run. We’re Going To Nome!!! Time to get serious!
Since this is my first blog thing I am going to end here and send it to Cheri so she can work her magic. Next entry I will go over our schedule and some changes we are going to try for the 2009 Serum Run.
Thank you for your interest..
